Applebees: Enjoy a cold one while Ukraine gets blown to bits! (Original Post) Initech Feb 2022 OP
That isn't Applebee's fault. They probably bought that add time long ago. Caliman73 Feb 2022 #1

CNN is to blame for airing it at that time.

then I heard the damn song played repeatedly on the satellite channel at the Y. The whole damn song is annoying.

Lousy as Crapplebee's is, I agree that it's not their fault. News channels should probably give some thought to a short buffer story, or weather update, or something before they go to commercials.

... so who am I to criticize if they sponsor a large country invading a smaller neighbor?

It is unfortunate timing of the commercial inset.

But, between the commercial and the footage of invasion, I don't mind the commercial.

I think they buy which hour or half hour it runs. But, I doubt they asked to run it after breaking news of a war in progress. That's on CNN.
That said, what ad would be appropriate after that report? None, I would think.
I'm no Appleby's fan. (Especially with their country puke commercials.). But, singling them out seems silly.

The country music jingle and the butt twerks only seal the deal.

No, it is not Applebee's fault, though one might think any national chain advertising on cable news might have a clause in their agreement opting to postpone scheduled content to another slot in times of intense catastrophic or horrific events.

But then I am having a hard time with relatively young, less experienced (and most often female) reporters smiling all through their reports. One on with Andrea Mitchell (I know, I know, but at least she knows when to appear serious) did this and I could not help but think someone like "Mrs. Greenspan" should mentor her and tell her to match her attitude with the subject of coverage. It was jarring--as though someone so convinced her to be pleasant above all else that she couldn't modulate--maybe the guys who'd demanded she smile growing up...
