Turkish officials reported no injuries after a bomb struck a Turkish-owned ship in the Black Sea, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Turkey's Directorate General of Maritime Affairs confirmed the bombing on Thursday, adding that no one was hurt in the attack.
The latest attack highlighted concerns that Russias invasion of Ukraine would disrupt vital shipping routes in the Black Sea, which carries most of the worlds wheat and other agricultural products, according to the Journal.
This comes as Turkey has shown support for Ukraine during the ordeal, even though Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has a close relationship with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Turkey supports Ukraines struggle to preserve its territorial integrity," Erdoğan said in an address on Thursday, adding that he also condemns Russias invasion of the country.

But it's hard to be an expert in everything, and even a 10-minute shallow-dive into the web-based materials doesn't always give even a misleading taste of what's going on.
Try this.

And the risky-if-controversial https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_wheat_production_statistics .
It's unlikely that 50%+ of the crop goes through the Black sea. That a large percentage of Ukr's and perhaps (maybe?) Russia's wheat crop goes by water through the megalake of darkness is possible.

The southern European steppe/black belt ("chernozem'" is great for wheat--most ag products, actually.
But 50%+ of the *world's* output? I mean, just no. Report misread something. Most of China's wheat stays in China, most of India's wheat stays in India, and while the US and Russia and Canada and Argentina export a lot of wheat (this I knew before, you're not getting a citation--the knowledge probably predates HTML's existence), they still hold on to a fair %age.

The claim seemed far fetched to me. If it had said all of Central Asias or the regional wheat and agriculture passed through, I wouldnt have been so skeptical.

(4,352 posts)Then close the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits to Russian ships as Ukraine has asked. You can also close the airspace over those straights too.
