There will be more of this. Russian military morale must be incredibly low. They do not want to kill their former countrymen. Anti-war protests in Russia will continue to grow.

(7,715 posts)If this is not propaganda, these soldiers were probably forced into joining the Russian military. By surrendering like they did, they may have saved many lives, including their own, but at great risk to themselves either from Ukraine or Russia if they ever make it back home. They did not want to murder people.
I hope there are many more episodes like this.

(20,591 posts)A few, key Russian Generals have to put their heads together and come up with a plan to remove Putin from power.
It had better be swift, and it had better be certain. If Putin escapes, power intact, blood will run in the streets. But it has to be done.
Odd, I should be talking about this, considering the Big Orange Pig's attempt at a coup, but he was wrong and didn't have the support of the military.

(5,131 posts)My son joined the USCG Reserves in 2007 when GWB was in office and the recruiter told us point blank, that he'd would probably get sent overseas and that it's all about the oil. He spent almost a year in Kuwait protecting the oil passageway, he also went to South Korea, and spent almost a year in Cuba. One weekend a month and two weeks a year, my ass! He's full-time career USCG and has grown to love his job leading the team that inspects cargo ships coming into the US.

Makes one wonder whether he's starting to unspool. Especially if the negative reaction at home starts growing. If he thought he'd score here, and he's surrounded by bad reviews, he's not gonna be in a good mood...

(12,533 posts)However, just watched an interview on the 11th hour where it was suggested that the really hardened Russian troops will be coming in after this first wave and without a way to resupply the Ukrainians--food, arms, whatever--this will be very difficult to sustain.
Still, the Ukrainian performance today was . . . impressive to say the least. They've lived up to Zelensky's promise: The Russians will see our faces, not our backs. They also ruined Putin's glorious blitzkrieg!
Bravo! The world is watching with great respect. Along with great heartbreak.

Two men who stood shoulder to shoulder with Boris Yeltsin to defy the attempted hardline coup in Moscow in 1991 look back on the critical hours when Russian democracy was saved - and share their disappointment with the society that has emerged.
It is one of the abiding images of modern Russian history, the famous picture of Boris Yeltsin speaking on a tank outside the parliament in Moscow on 19 August 1991.

(7,920 posts)we recognize as propaganda?
They were sent in as a peacekeeping force to 'protect' the Russian citizens of Ukraine from the 'nasty' Ukrainian people?
Instead, they entered a scenario where resistance was encountered and street to street fighting was required.
The citizens of Ukraine and Russia have too much in common for that to happen, in the minds of some Russian soldiers.
Hoping the feeling spreads. And Vlad's dream of rebuilding the (imaginary) grandeur of the old USSR goes up in smoke.
NATO is sending extra weapons to Ukraine.
The US and other countries might want to start making rebuilding plans for when this is over, the destruction of infrastructure and dwellings is horrendous.
Assuming Ukraine stays out of Vlad's hands of course.
As it is in every post war scenario, civilians suffer the most and the longest.
