From Chasten Buttigieg on his Cancer test & Gay rights
"After being in the hospital for a while I had surgery last week to remove a growth. Now that I’m home I’ve been sleeping and snuggling babies most of my days. Peter, the doctors, and I were all relived to find out my condition was not cancer.
I’ve had so much time to pause and reflect these last few weeks as we awaited what felt like impending scary news only to be relieved and granted clarity with what feels like a renewed sense of purpose. I’ve been squeezing Peter and the kids close each and every day.
I’m so grateful to the doctors and nurses who patiently cared for me and filled my days with as much humor and jello as they could, especially when it was nerve-racking and lonely.
There’s a lot happening right now and I’ve never been more motivated to speak up and push back as we see more and more threats against the LGBTQ community and our kids in schools. Unfortunately, doctors orders say being fired up also means taking it easy and resting, for now.
I’m so grateful for the organizations and individuals on the ground across the country who are sticking up to the bigotry and cruelty (like @equalityfl in the face of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill). I can’t wait to get back on my feet and jump back into the good fights with you."
