1. Not Hawaii related but pre arrival tests into the US need to be scrapped.

For one, 24 hours is a very small window to get tested and results so at the very least if they insist on continuing the testing it should be 48 hours.

But a better solution would be to scrap the testing for vaccinated people.

1. These tests, taken in other countries before traveling to the US, are almost certainly not sequenced for new variants.

2. It’s not an effective mitigation strategy anyway, as we saw most recently with omicron.

So it’s time to dump the tests for vaccinated people, like other countries have.

So we can safely assume that numbers will shoot up again.

Very few mandates are actually in place, which is why the waves of pandemic continue to wash up on our country.

I'm not unmasking any time soon.

14. Not everyone in Ohio wears a mask and yet hubs had surgery for his back yesterday in a hospital

in Cleveland crowded with folks who had been waiting for months maybe years for certain treatments...there was a 24-hour wait for a bed...and not one Covid patient in the entire hospital.

17. That would be extremely surprising -

Given that there are 12,430 COVID hospitalizations in Cuyahoga County today, and only 16 hospitals.

Admissions were low today (only 20 reported yesterday), but the 12,410 who are hanging around taking up bed space and medical resources are still putting a tremendous strain on the system.

Not until it’s down much lower. Many people who work indoors have immune compromised family at home or are themselves. The mandate stopped most of the very stressful maskhole arguments.

Remember the woman who had a meltdown at the restaurant supply store a few months back? She moved to Texas. So that’s good. One less drama queen.

We would like to stay out of the hospital. Remember the last time it was over, right before omicron?

9. We need the protection here in Hawaii

The new Omicron variant is a threat. People come from everywhere. I see crowds of tourists in places with no social distancing.

There are still many pockets of un-vaccinated people here so another wave is likely.

Ending the mask mandate and testing would be a disaster.

I'm just not sure. I think I will hold the hotel room (Hale Koa fills up) just in case. Who knows where this pandemic will be in 6 months...So I guess I will hold the room just in case...Not holding out much hope though...

18. What you could reasonably expect

...is that you will need masks and be fully vaccinated. It will not ruin the beauty of the island. Rent a car and drive around the island with time to stop and enjoy all the different spots. It would be relaxing and special.

We have found that when we go to Oahu (we live on Hawaii Island) that rental car fees are cheaper outside of Waikiki. Investigate. Don't forget to check Costco.com. as well.

If you spend much of your time hanging around restaurants and resort areas you may find service to be slow. Lots of employees have been impacted by the pandemic.

Aloha.

Removing mandates is the last thing I'd be concerned about.
