(3,402 posts)I'm Jewish, and I forwarded a tweet from the Auschwitz Memorial condemning Russia to my immediate family and my cousin's, and I also pointed out that Ukraine's president and prime minister are Jewish.
My conservative Israeli cousin just said, "Peace. Shabbat Shalom." Nothing more.

(26,366 posts)According to the report, Israeli officials made it clear to the US administration in informal talks that it wouldnt agree to the transfer of Iron Dome batteries to Kyiv, fearing it would hurt its relations with Russia, especially in light of Moscows influence over Syria.
The Ukrainians, in turn, have in recent months made direct requests to the Israeli government and asked for officials to approve the sale.
Convinced by Israels arguments, the US dropped the transfer of both Iron Dome and Patriot missiles.

From Wednesday:
n its first response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Israeli government expressed support for Ukraine's territorial integrity but declined to condemn Vladimir Putin or even mention the word Russia.
Why it matters: The Foreign Ministry statement hinted at Israel's attempt to balance aligning itself with its biggest ally, the U.S., while maintaining good relations with another superpower, Russia, with which it has an important security relationship.

(2,010 posts)(JTA) Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid condemned Russias invasion of Ukraine Thursday and offered humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians.
In its statements on the situation until Thursday, Israel had not referred to Russia by name nor had it criticized Russia explicitly.
The Russian attack on Ukraine is a serious violation of international order, Israel condemns the attack, is ready and prepared to provide humanitarian aid to the citizens of Ukraine, Lapid said at a press conference and in a series of tweets. (More)
I'd heard several weeks ago Israel was encouraging their citizens to leave Ukraine, and also planning to streamline and expedite Jews applying to immigrate through the law of return.
