Sure, this is about Ukraine. a current event. But what we know about Ukraine wouldn't be possible without Bellingcat. And so I pitch this group, which I class above Anonymous.
I post bellingcat these days for people much younger and smarter than I.
I've followed Bellingcat since my days as a goon on the SomethingAwful forums, where he was one of our beloved forum moderators known as Brown Moses. But now that I've slowed down and dealing with a personal loss, I strongly encourage younger DU'ers to explore and join Bellingcat.
Bellingcat began as an investigation of the use of weapons in the Syrian Civil War. Its evidence-filled reports on the War in Donbas (including the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17), the El Junquito raid, the Yemeni Civil War, the Skripal poisoning and the killing of civilians by the Cameroonian Army have attracted international attention.
Because of their work, The Hague invited Bellingcat to help the International Criminal Court, and so it has moved Bellingcat from London to The Hague in Brussels. IMO, this is all to the better for the world community.
Now Bellingcat has become the people's intelligence service across all continents. If you're interested, they offer systematic online training in open source use; they have good trainers, including Ari Toler in the U.S. Their step-by-step instruction help newbs use open source to gather intelligence via satellite and geolocation apps and practices. Of course they have the spirit and humor to help students, but I must say in all seriousness and sincerity, that Bellingcat, the people's intelligence service, is, along with US, a whole new advancement for humanity.
