(10,092 posts)Making it sound like he didnt think hed survive. As to the paratroop plane, do armies still use paratroopers? Always seems like helicopters are better, and I know Russia has a lot of helicopters. Ive read of several Russian planes being shot down.

(8,278 posts)When I was in the military a couple years back, our paratroopers would be seen training jumping out of planes regularly at the base I drilled at.

(7,512 posts)Helicopters fly lower and slower than planes, and so they are easier to shoot down with man-portable anti aircraft weapons. The United States provided Stinger missiles to the Afghan's in the 1980s and the Afghans gave the Soviet helicopters a lot of grief using them.

(1,764 posts)is true, that could be major. That is a very large, heavy lift aircraft. If it was loaded with troops, the numbers will be pretty high.
