I've seen a couple of posts hypothesizing that Putin might be taking steroids, and he certainly has the puffy face that one often sees in a steroid user; but no one, to my knowledge, has taken this further: steroid use causes aggressive, sometimes irrational behavior.
This is a commonly known side effect of steroids like prednisone. And I've certainly seen this effect in people I've known, when kind, gentle, even-tempered people became, to a person, "rage machines" while taking steroids. These people were so caught up in their anger that the consequences of it just didn't matter.
It's interesting food for thought.

(1,849 posts)He's always been capable of unhinged and aggressive behavior, but this is extreme.
It could also be that whatever illnesses he's suffering from or treating make him psychologically more likely to lash out and hurt as many people as he can; because he's sick and suffering and his prognosis is poor he's decided to go for it, reunify the former ussr under Russia and his rule, until he's done. And if he causes death and chaos in the world, all the better. Going out with a bang.
Whatever is causing him to be so aggressive, I hope it kills him or causes someone to do so.
Sooner would be best.

(4,544 posts)Considered an anabolic steroid.
But I know prednisone can effect mood.
But, MY theory is that Putin was taking anabolic steroids at some point. And besides helping increase muscles, you can have alopecia and bad moods I think?
Please correct me if Im wrong.
Thanks!

(1,164 posts)I was referring to corticosteroids, which can cause a puffy face.
To my knowledge, anabolic steroids don't cause a puffy, water-retention face.
I haven't the time nor the inclination to get into a discussion with you about this, but it appears that you might be the one who doesn't know much about steroids, not the least of which is that there are different types of them.

(4,544 posts)Dont anabolic steroids cause rage as well?
Ive seen the picture of Putin shirtless. Very developed muscles and a hairless chest I think? Would that happen with anabolic steroid use?
Anyway, hes gone over the edge. I think he is going scorched earth now.
My heart is with Ukraine and the people of Russia who oppose Putin. Just so senseless and sad.

(12,373 posts)asked about Putins frame of mind. She watched the extended speech and said he's "extremely sharp" and "fast of wit"...
So I don't think he's suffering a loss of mental capacity BUT the rage/aggression is real.

(1,262 posts)I base that on watching him in the seat at the Olympics. He seemed to be nodding off actually. His head movement indicated a loss of control of some sort. Perhaps opiates?
I would not rule out steroid use. In fact, if they tested (if they even can) cops for steroid usage after every incident chances are one might find quite a few on them. But nooooooo...they turn a blind eye to what is common in the profession.
