(63,221 posts)I was living in an early 20th century doorman building on the UWS (Broadway and W. 88th Street) and we had the most beautiful view of the Empire State Building from the living room window, completely unobstucted. I kind of miss that, even though I love my cosy place in Boston now.
The apartments on the UWS were so much more spacious than anywhere else with a huge foyer and rooms. It was a gorgeous (rent controlled) placed that I lucked into. One of those "this is so NYC" kind of places.
The only problem was that I lived with someone who had bought the place decades ago and only decided to open up the living room when he felt like it. Occasionally he would invite me and other guests in for a glass of wine and the spectacular view, but it was really lovely.
My bedroom was the size of a large studio w/ an en suite bathroom and 3 closets. My windows looked onto a courtyard, so not bad, but it wasn't the Manhattan skyline. Still, I liked it. Great neighborhood.
