Russian vessel reportedly seized in the English Channel

France on Saturday intercepted and seized a Russian vessel in the English Channel in line with new EU sanctions against Moscow, according to multiple media reports.

The cargo ship was bound for St. Petersburg and was transporting cars, but French sea police redirected the vessel to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France.

It is "strongly suspected of being linked to Russian interests targeted by the sanctions," said Captain Veronique Magnin of the French Maritime Prefecture, according to Reuters, with reports that the ship is owned by a Russian businessman who is on the EU's list of sanctioned inviduals.

Reports say that the vessel is called the "Baltic Leader" and the crew were cooperating with the authorities.

Sorry Pootie, the sanctions are serious. They should seize all Russian vessels and make certain they do not violate sanctions.

and that would wound him more than a Russian ship of commerce. He would lose his playpen.

I saw a photo of it a couple days ago, so I'm sure someone knows where it is. Grab it!

It had been under repair and updating in Hamburg but Putin’s $100 million yacht abruptly left on Feb.10th. It was reported to have gone to Kaliningrad, North East of Gdańsk and 40 miles inside the border of Russia. No reason was made public for the departure.

According to Boat International report, the yacht arrived last year in Hamburg, where it has been receiving several modifications, including two forward balconies and an extension to the swimming platform. However, now, amid fears the West would impose sanctions if Russia invaded Ukraine, the boat was spotted on a public maritime-traffic-tracking site sailing towards Russia from Hamburg shipyard.

Talk about herding cats. Try getting the EU states to agree on anything. Hats off to France and Biden and all the rest keeping up the good fight.
