I'd post this in one of the entertainment forums except that it's so chillingly timely. Using guile, political machinations and the occasional murder but without a military invasion, Russia takes over a NATO country (the US has withdrawn from NATO) in order to control oil supplies to the EU. The EU doesn't want to get involved because they want the oil, and the US won't help either. The Russian ambassador is as much of a snake as you'd imagine. This series is several years old but it sure was prescient.
