Decades before John Wayne made his movie, Dad said he hoped I would grow up to be a man with "grit".
"What's that?" little Atticus inquired.
He explained, "Some people, when things get really really bad---life knocks them flat and everyone thinks they're finished---can pull themselves up, clench their teeth, look the world in the eye and say 'Is that all you've got?'
That is 'grit'."
Zelensky has grit. His people have grit.
I hope we do.

"Grit" is rare.
