the air space is closed and russia will shoot down transports. the western border is a long way from the combat zones and is clogged with refugees. so far russia apparently is not shooting up the rail network but could at any time.
how do we get the stuff there...

It's REALLY important that UKR keep the air open, that's their life line

Plus the Ukrainians still have a number of airfields, fly a cargo plane in from the west, flying at little more than treetop level
I'm finally feeling OK about the response by the US and others.

, thatll be safe. We need to make sure Russia is denied Air Supremacy in western Ukraine. Air defense systems preferred, but a no-fly zone enforced from the air if necessary.

(5,554 posts)I'm thinking the hundreds of GROM-M missile systems Poland provided right before the fighting started is a big part of it. From what I'm reading they're cutting edge and likely better than even US current issued equipment
The bold botched para-drops are at odds with that though, not sure what to make of it

(7,221 posts)At least two IL-76 transports on airborne insertion missions. Plus lots of helicopters and jets.
The newest Stingers are quite good, but we're stingy with them. We don't want them falling in to Russian hands. But frankly, just gobs of even relatively older stuff will do the trick. Most of the Russian equipment is old and doesn't have a ton of countermeasure capability.

(5,969 posts)No one said anything about the need to invade anyone. Ukraine has borders to NATO members. The rest is up to Ukraine to figure out.
And for the case of Russia, why would you put invade in quotation marks?

(67,366 posts)but Putin would lose his shit if Nato members actively resupplied Ukraine forces in Ukraine.
Although not as far away as I initially thought, a convoy from the Polish border to Kyiv would still have to travel a considerable distance.
