(497 posts)as I laid my head down last night and tried to sleep I said a deep, slow and hopeful prayer for all Ukrainians. Nope, not religious typically but I don't know what else to do right now folks. After my prayer I thought of some video I've seen and how similar the Russian and Ukrainian soldiers look...not just physically but in terms of their uniforms. I quickly dismissed the thought and just silly overthinking of the battles...of COURSE they know who is who and tried unsuccessfully to drift off to sleep. Now I see this thread and realize it was a legit thought.

(11,825 posts)From another non-religious person, I will admit to basically 'praying' ceaselessly for the people of Ukraine. And the Russian soldiers, like the one in the village of Sumy, whose people told him he wasn't welcome in their town, may they find these are their relatives. We are all one; we all bleed red.

We're all the same under the skin the only question is: Why do a few of the billions of people on the planet think they own the rest of us.
I just can't understand that.

(11,248 posts)I remember in 2005 working with a Ukrainian guy for my first job he would correct people very quickly if they equated Russians with Ukrainians. Of course there is s lot of overlapping history, but they are distinct.

(54,770 posts)dont think some of the Russian soldiers are really into killing their neighbors, at least right now.

(14,559 posts)The German field marshal, known as Moltke the Elder, believed in developing a series of options for battle instead of a single plan, saying No plan of operations extends with certainty beyond the first encounter with the enemys main strength. Today, no plan survives contact with the enemy is the popular reconfiguration of this concept.

(58,785 posts)one word when two will be twice as much. Who knows, Moltke might approve having spares.

My heart is breaking for Ukraine having to fight this fight alone.
