that the world might remember where it should be going
cars crushed by tanks should wipe the silly smiles
from the faces of my compatriots
should stay the plans of the inflated self
scare the shit out of the giggling class
aggrandizing a non-existent self
but it won’t
even after Zelensky is murdered as seems likely
even after Ukrainians have worn down their invaders
and the invader’s own people have perished in protests
the world witnessing a bravery in service of the righteous
that it has rarely seen in the past several decades of cynicism
and obfuscation in service of snatch-and-grab capitalism
the same nits will be yammering again tonight and tomorrow
no matter what
but a great many people might wake up
setting that yammering against this courage in the face of almost
certain death yet there is faith yet
and realize the disparity in their clearings openings
and see what it might be given them to see
yet there is faith
