(24,948 posts)They can predict that? When our power companies can't get power back on in a few hours here, there's practically a riot! This seems veeeeeeerrrrryyy questionable IMHO

(10,960 posts)The last hurricane they made the same sort of pre-announcements.
If your power is out for weeks it's expected, right?
And if it is on within a day or two then Dominion obviously performed some sort of miracle.

(322 posts)But PEPCO, however, you gotta watch out for. They promise mediocrity and deliver abomination

(8,710 posts)was 18 hours, back at the end of June. I'm always grateful that we don't have PEPCO.

(609 posts)we did lose power with that bizarre weekend storm about a month ago. Even then, it was only for four hours, which was the longest time we've ever been without power (thankful for underground lines).
I think this time may be different. The kids are excited at the prospect of school being cancelled. I'm just worried.
Worried too for my brother and sister-in-law who are in Chevy Chase and subject to PEPCO's problems.

(4,507 posts)although, tbh, they've been pretty good in DC proper (but brutal in the burbs from what I understand).
I'm worried as hell about this one, and worried about my people up North.

(14,040 posts)we, apparently, had a preemptive power outage tonight for several hours. No wind, no rain... power just, poof, went out.
I'm not looking forward to my chances and I suspect with early voting starting tomorrow, that it won't be a good day to go.

(14,040 posts)Sunday. I really like voting on election day. I take the day off and pretend it's a national holiday (as it should be) and go vote and then sit and watch the results.

(5,580 posts)we just seemed to lose power all the time, i live on top of a mountain now and i lose power less than when i lived in monty county.

(14,040 posts)seriously, today I got home from work around 5ish, cloudy, not windy, no rain, home about 10 minutes and the power went out. Didn't come back on until about 7.

(5,580 posts)wondering what the hell was going on, i so hated pepco with a depth that i cant explain, now we lose power and its back within a day or less though i have a whole house generator now so i just kick back and wait.

(14,040 posts)we lost power for 5 days but, come to find out, they'd fixed our power 2 days earlier and forgot to "flip a switch." Not a fan. However, I've also lived in VA and right after I moved there I went through a hurricane and was without power for 9 days with Dominion... Makes me miss Pennsylvania--only time power went out there was when I forgot to pay the bill (which was never)

(5,580 posts)i got enough fuel for my whole house generator for a month if need be longer if the kids dont watch tv and play video games, and enough food for 6 months and the well, only thing i fear is snow as that means i need to shovel and get the snowthrower out.

(14,040 posts)that way I can crash with my roommates (one of which is Pagan) when we lose our power.

(5,580 posts)when my daughter called 911 when her brother told her he wasnt speaking to her and she should call dispatch and they will talk to her, the deputy had to call the house to get directions to do the welfare check and even then i had to meet him and drive him to the house.

(295,696 posts)in Jamaica from Cat 1 Sandy. 70% of the island lost power and only 30% of them are still without power. They have promised electricity to all their customers by Sunday night.
Maybe the plan is to make sure that power is not returned to certain neighborhoods. Maybe they'll just turn it off.

(237 posts)Virginia requires an acceptable excuse in order to avail yourself of early voting. I wonder if this will qualify?
SickOfTheOnePct
(8,710 posts)Weather isn't listed as one of the acceptable excuses for early voting. I'm going to utilize the 11 hours of commuting/working during voting hours. I usually go first thing when the polls open, and then go to work, but I could vote absentee every year.

Hope the power returns quickly.

(2,338 posts)We probably won't know until Sunday where this b**ch is gonna land.
I have to check to see when and where I can early vote this weekend. I don't want to take a chance because in my area we use electronic voting machines.
Perfect storm indeed. Sheesh!!

(12,051 posts)storms. And we have underground lines and we're 2 blocks from Midlothian Turnpike! We finally threw in the towel and bought a generator in anticipation of the inevitable.
