Vitali Klitschko, Kyivs mayor and former world heavyweight boxing champion, has described the Ukraine capital as encircled and said a civilian evacuation would not be possible because all ways are blocked.
We are at the border of a humanitarian catastrophe, he told Associated Press on Sunday as a curfew continued in the city which he said allowed authorities to hunt saboteurs on the streets. Right now, we have electricity, right now we have water and heating in our houses. But the infrastructure is destroyed to deliver the food and medication.
this is the tactic the USSR used securing Berlin in WWII.

Kyiv mayor: reports capital surrounded by Russian forces are false
The mayor of Kyiv has said reports that the capital is surrounded by Russian forces are false.
In the evening, Russian online publications spread information with reference to me that Kyiv was allegedly surrounded and evacuation of people was impossible, Vitali Klitschko said in a statement. And it is strange that Ukrainian telegram channels started to spread it
Do not believe lies! Trust information only from official sources. Together, we will stand together. Ukraine will win!
A spokesperson for the mayor told the Kyiv Independent that Klitschko misspoke earlier Sunday, and that information about Russian troops encircling the city is a lie and a manipulation.
Satellite images on Sunday showed a 3.25-mile long deployment of Russian forces advancing toward Kyiv.
So, if you can't even trust news from Ukraine officials who can you trust?

(8,020 posts)in position they will time a pause for peace talks. Now, this may be a plan for pooty to gain time to hall in badly needed supplies for the final push or it might be a face saving moment for pooty, claiming he was positioned to & could have taken the capital but halted the attack for peace & withdraws but that would be a lot to ask of an unhinged dictator.

(17,636 posts)They wouldn't be covering virgin territory, the Russians tried that with Berlin after WWII.
The world needs to give Russia the same treatment; nothing, no one, comes or goes to or from Russia. Nothing, nada, zip.

(8,207 posts)It's one thing to die to save your country, it's another to die for nothing. The Russians wouldn't need to do anything to the brave citizens of Kyiv except wait for them to starve.
I hope I am wrong.

(49,445 posts)NATO may have to act militarily to relieve Kiev to avoid millions of people freezing or starving to death. And the repercussions of that can be scary.
