A HERETIC I AM
(24,376 posts)Is a Kalitta Air 747.
Thats Connie Kalittas cargo airline, based out of Ypsilanti, MI.
Kalitta has had an NHRA drag racing team for years and his son Scott was tragically killed in one of their Top Fuelers back in 2008.
Kalitta Air is one of those cargo airlines that always seems to be doing the coolest and sometimes somewhat dangerous moves. If this is a recent shot of them moving necessary items into Kiev, then they deserve a round of applause.
Good on ya, brave pilots. Well done. Well done indeed.

(1,542 posts). . . "Kalitta Airlines" is under contract to a government agency headquartered in McLean VA.
Back in the day when I was in Vietnam, the same government organization used a "contract airline" -- Air America.
Regardless, let's hope they keep hauling munitions to the Ukrainians.

(24,376 posts)Was not in Ukraine in the last 7 days, according to FlightRadar24.com
https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n782ck
They have 24 747s, but the other two 74s of Kalittas that I looked at - N744CK & N745CK have not been there in the last week either. To search further back on that site requires registering and subscription.
There is no doubt Kalitta has done transport for the DOD and CIA in the past.

(6,446 posts)that Ukranians call their capital Kyiv and Russians call the city Kiev. It is pronounced differently as well. I have taken the stance of the Washington Post and the Guardian and begun calling the city Kyiv as it is listed on maps and as the "natives" prefer it to be called that.

(11,109 posts)Is it your position that Ukraine is not engaging in a justified act of self-defense. Is it your position that the Ukrainian Army may not properly fire on Russian tanks within Ukrainian territory? Am I reading you correctly in saying the Ukrainians are Nazis?
oldsoftie
(12,597 posts)ANY statement other than that is false.

(12,597 posts)"Thirty of the victims died of smoke inhalation after a fire was set in the central trade union building, where pro-Russia separatists reportedly had taken up sniper positions to fire on pro-unity demonstrators, police said."
"The report by the Kremlin-controlled state television channel also said that video from the scene showed most of those subsequently found dead in the trade union building wore insignia attesting to their support for Russia."
Yes some innocents died but far fewer

(12,597 posts)It is abundantly clear that the pro-Russia side was very well armed, well organized and that this action was planned long ago,
Ukrainians supporting their country were marching and were attacked by the pro-Russian insurgents.

(3,635 posts)There's a false impression that all Ukraine has is a rag-tag army of volunteers. They do have that, but they also have a professional armed forces that is 200k strong plus 200k reserves that was trained over the past 8 years by the US to fight exactly this type of asymmetric war. The javelins, stingers and other weapons we're providing them are highly effective.
