Tensions rise at the 3bn Surrey estate Russian oligarchs call home

The warning to rich Russians linked to Putin that the UK government “will come after you” and ensure oligarchs have “nowhere to hide” is likely to hit hard at the gated luxury housing estate in Surrey dubbed “Britain’s Beverly Hills”.

Russians and those from former Soviet states own more than a quarter of the 430 luxurious homes in St George’s Hill, a heavily guarded 964-acre estate near Weybridge, Surrey, where mansions have changed hands for more than £20m each.

Liz Truss, the foreign secretary, said on Sunday that the government was drawing up a “hitlist” of oligarchs with links to Putin who will be added to the sanctions list in coming days and weeks.

“We have to make it deeply painful for the oligarchs that support the Putin regime. There are over a hundred Russian billionaires,” she told the Sunday Times. “Nothing is off the table in terms of who or what we are targeting. We are very clear about that – we are very prepared to do what it takes.”

John Lennon bought a home in that area, known then as the "stockbroker's belt," for himself, wife Cynthia, & son Julian at the height of Beatlemania. Cynthia came home one day to find John & Yoko Ono sitting around in bathrobes--Yoko wearing Cynthia's. Mild-mannered Cynthia, stunned, mumbled something about going out to dinner and left, in a daze.

That was shitty of them to treat Cynthia like that. He could have asked for a divorce without doing that. And Yoko, how could she do that to another woman? They could have gone and done their frolicking anywhere without shoving it into Cynthia's face like that. John and Yoko were the power couple from hell!

a peacemaker in his own life. Same with Yoko Ono. A lot of petty meanness & hypocrisy there. (Don't get me started on how she treated Julian!) Sadly, I both J&Y suffered great trauma in their youth & it screwed them up in many ways.

But there's something to what John said about their peace campaigns--praphrasing here, but the idea was that he & Yoko were doing an advertising campaign for peace. Trying to sell it like a product. And while you don't have to be a farmer or a cowboy to sell horses, that doesn't mean you might not believe in or aspire to be one.

You have to be a #PutinFanBoy to become an #Oligarch. Then you must vow undying loyalty before #TsarVladthePretender allows you to steal from Russia*... Oh, and you have to give #TsarVlad a "taste" of everything.

Can't remember the guy's name but there is this guy that worked for Yeltsin that was supposed to ease the privatization but he went full throttle and just started giving things away to people. When I say things I mean entire industries. So these people are basically all criminals in my opinion from the get-go.

"Super-heroine, Liz Truss, squeezes 7 more Russian oligarchs into a financial Waterloo the vodka barons will not soon forget", says the Telegraph.

"Surrey's 'Red Squares' reeling as Liz Truss bundles their assets in today's high stakes answer to Putin's Ukraine blitz gone awry", sings the Times.

"With Liz Truss at the ready, scalpel in hand, movement of local Czarist billionaires' foul gotten gains are held back by Britain's tightened trade regulations and inguinal mesh from united western support in deft financial surgery", shouts the Guardian. "They'll need a daily bag change after I'm done with the blighters", says Liz tersely from her modest home in Whiteskliff on Doonesbury Dam.

Another name for the ages, Liz Tersely.
