Dr. Oz challenging Dr. Fauci to a debate is like a cow pie challenging the Lone Ranger to step in it.

(63,199 posts)Factually, of course, he'd stomp all over Oz, but Oz would pull some sort of Gish-gallop nonsense and would spew a lot of fallacious garbage, and the Reichwing faithful would praise Oz for his brilliance and for his bogus truth-to-power shtick.
Fauci has nothing to gain from such a debate, and Oz has nothing to lose.

a better tweet was from a guy who complained he had challenged Jimmy Page to do a guitar duel with him but he hasn't heard back from Jimmy

It's much like we've seen with every Dem/Repub debate of the past 20+ years, in which the Democrat objectively destroys the Republican, only to have the "neutral" viewers give the Repub a more favorable rating, followed by a parade of pundits parroting something like "although the Dem had a good command of the issues, the Repub simply connected with voters better, so I'm calling this one a draw, possibly leaning in favor of the Repub."
Again, there is no question that Fauci, an actual doctor, would disintegrate Oz, an actual quack. But that's not what's at stake.
Also again, Fauci has nothing to gain, and Oz has nothing to lose. Simply by showing up, Fauci would be giving Oz the victory that he actually wants.
