This is heartbreaking and horrifying. I have a granddaughter the same age.

A wounded 6-year-old girl arrived at a hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine, on Sunday.
Her mother wept outside the ambulance. Her father was at her side, covered in blood.
The family was at a supermarket on the outskirts of the southeastern port city when Russian shelling started, according to the Associated Press.
Now, a medical team was racing to save the young girl's life.

We all need to look at these images and help Ukraine as much as we can.

(5,969 posts)The invasion didn't work out as planned and Russia is getting humiliated on a daily basis. They've become a joke and they are getting desperate. This isn't the first story today about these bastards deliberately going for civilian targets.

(8,003 posts)...ordinary Russians supported this monster, just as ordinary Americans support Orange Shitler. There are some Russians that see him as a monster, but many see him as the protector of the Russian culture. In their eyes, he "Made Russia Great Again".
Much of this is due to relentless state propaganda, but some is due to the human desire to be dominant and to respect patriarchal alpha male characteristics.
It is a sickness borne of 10's of thousands of years of patriarchal dominance...
thats why it is so very critical that the sanctions have broad and very obvious effect on ordinary russians which will make them think and learn more about what is happening. Also, looking at how Ukrainanis suffer and flee for their lives, no sanctions can compare to this suffering so there is no question that ALL russians must bear the responsibility for these atrocities. Putin is nothing without relentless support of russian citizens - hes been extremely popular in Russia and the vast majority of russians support annexation of Crimea.

(8,003 posts)...but it will take some time to bite. The sanctions will also cause pain among the western alliance. I hope that we have the resolve to see this through. This is akin to Germany in 1939. I hope the free world is prepared for the sacrifice that standing up to a madman will involve.
I am stunned and surprised how quickly the sanctions have come together and how severe they are. There has never been anything like this in world history.
Now they have to be enforced.

(6,321 posts)I hope they are prepared. Also, living w/o gas is still so much better than dying in Ukraine. The whole world need to be prepared for possible consequences. This is a cost of war and nothing compares to dying.
