Talks between Ukraine and Russia that took place earlier today were "very difficult", Ukrainian

presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak said.

Negotiations are difficult. However, without any obligatory ultimatums already. Unfortunately, the Russian side is still extremely biased regarding the destructive processes it launched.

Not surprising at all. With troops active in Ukraine, it's more like hostage negotiations... Wounded Bear Feb 2022 #5

What is there to negotiate?
"Hey, Putin, we demand you stop being an asshole and pull your dic...I mean, troops...out of Ukraine. In return, Ukraine will continue to be awesome and will accept all the Russians that are sick of your shit as refugees. Deal?"

There's no graceful way out for Putin and he knows it. That's what scares me the most. He's a cornered, rabid dog. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets assassinated by one of his own minions. Maybe he'll fall off his balcony.

Russia is very likely to withdraw without some trophies. If they were stop now, their invasion would be widely (and correctly) seen as a massive failure and an embarrassment of generational significance.

The Ukrainians would have to be willing to acquiesce to some serious bullshit. I can't see them doing that any time soon. Even if they lose control of the urban centers (still a very real possibility), they are well positioned to offer a hellish resistance.
