Fox to Broadcast International Soccer Tournament
Reacting to FIFA's ban on participation of Russian teams in international competition resulting from the invasion of Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Fox News issued a joint statement today announcing what they termed as an "alternative World Cup" competition set for later this year. Promising a "tournament, the likes of which the world has not yet seen", Putin lashed out at what he claimed was a western propaganda move led by the United States to make him look bad. "There are plenty of countries out there who will be willing to play with us", said the embattled Russian leader, "the strong nations of the world do not need these weaklings".
Belarus, North Korea, Myanmar and Uzbekistan have already agreed to participate in what is being called the "Pariah Cup" as each of the participating nations is already considered a world outcast. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said his country was contacted and asked to join the group to which he replied, "No F***ing way!" There are still outstanding invitations to Sudan, Kosovo and several other nations with a history of human rights violations and other abhorrent behaviors.
Fox News has agreed to launder over $1 Billion in funds from Russian Oligarchs as payment for airing the competition. It is unclear how recent economic sanctions on Putin and his country will effect the abilitiy to actually pay anything to Fox. They will be partnering with the Russian RT Network on the broadcasts. Irena Briganti, Senior Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications for FOX News Media said, "we have a long history of helping to get Russia's message out to the world", she added, "this is something we're actually good at doing".
There is some speculation that certain former Trump properties may be deeded over to the network as partial payment, although the true value of those real estate holdings is difficult to ascertain. The schedule of games and host sites have not yet been set.
