Belarus Hackers hit the train system in Belarus to slow Russian army advance.
The hackers infiltrated the railway system with ransomware and will provide the coding key only if President Alexander Lukashenko stopped assisting Russian troops preparing for an invasion of Ukraine.

...even in the US are run on ancient operating systems.

I know some water treatment plants that were running on Windows 2000 here in the US.

It is like pulling teeth to get these operators to upgrade.

It has taken 2 years to get a water plant client of mine to upgrade to Windows 10 and I live in Northern California, 2 hours from Silicon Valley. They previously ran Windows Vista.

This doesn't surprise me at all. The tanks are probably running on Cobol...

COBOL is still out there. Despite being a but wordy, it's a good reporting language.

the only way for XP to be secure in any form at this date and time is for it to be unplugged from any network, period. There are so many security flaws that are no longer being patched, an amateur would even have a field day with it.

Holy Shit! Windows XP was officially EOL'd by Microsoft back in 2014! Having that as your OS is criminally incompetent at this point. Jesus...🤦?♂️😂

Remember all of those annoying CDs they blanketed us with? At one point 50% of all CDs manufactured were AOL start-up discs. I remember hearing a story about someone who was so sick of seeing those AOL discs everywhere that they collected a very large number of them and then dumped them at the front door of AOL HQ. Now, they're a collectable.

So WE’RE not as vulnerable in the future.

This whole thing has been a cautionary tale for those of our leaders who choose to take a lesson from it.

As thorough and experienced as President Biden is, it wouldn’t surprise me if he already assigned some people to start doing something about it.
