The Wyoming Senate has voted 16 to 14 to eliminate the U. of Wyoming Gender Studies program. (Bill below). This will not only eliminate not only the gender studies department, but also courses and non-academic programs related to gender.

This is an unlawful government overreach and attack on academic freedom that would affect 30 academic programs and 105 courses, and limit the ability of students to learn about the many ways gender affects our past, present, and future

The Wyoming Senate voted 16 to 14 to eliminate the University of Wyoming Gender Studies program with a budget amendment.

The amendment came from Lingle Sen. Cheri Steinmetz, a member of the appropriations committee, who was reviewing course offerings at UW and thought some of the topics were extreme.

“It’s one that’s caused me to lose some sleep because as being (one of) the folks that deal with the public funds going to this University, I felt that this was one that our constituents, I know certainly mine, wouldn't agree with,” said Steinmetz. “And I would challenge any of you to take this home to your constituents and ask them what they think of it.”

Casper Sen. Charles Scott said, “this is extremely biased, ideologically driven that I can’t see any academically legitimacy to.”

But another Casper Sen. Bill Landen said he found it ironic to consider cutting Gender Studies in the same building where women were given the right to vote.

women the right to vote? ( They needed the voters for statehood - pragmatic decision. But still. The new rule might prevent the teaching of that fact.)

Men and women on the same teams? 'Cause if you take gender out of all courses, including "non-academics", that means no men's or women's specific college sports.
Hope they like losing Title IX funds.

On edit -this means women can try out for generic UW football and basketball teams? Over the years I've known some young ladies who could easily qualify at a high athletic level to play against young men in any sport.
