Any word yet on the veracity of the story of the Ghost of Kyiv?

The Ukrainian MiG pilot who allegedly shot down six Russian jets, including a few that were technologically superior, and then disappeared.

Haven't heard any more for a couple of days. It may just be one of those tales that is told in times of war.

But what a great story if it's true.

A jet can't just disappear, though. It has to go somewhere for refueling, re-arming, and maintenance. Practical concerns like that means we'll either hear about this intrepid pilot soon, or find out the whole thing was an exaggeration.

I haven’t heard whether there’s been any independent confirmation of the story.

Seems like it would be almost impossible to document this even using *real* videos.

Edit - Listed wrong game for this video. There is another video from the other game, I don't see it anymore though.

"One clip purporting to show the fighter pilot which has already racked up more than 5 million views on social media and showed a MiG-29 has already been debunked as from the 2008 videogame Digital Combat Simulator (DCS)."

Positive myth results in support. We all love the underdog.

...who supposedly aided the BEF in Belgium in 1914. People took the Angels of Mons very seriously--whole books were written to attest to their existence. I'd like to believe that the Ghost has a little more reality to him than the Angels...

It helped inspire more resistance and morale. The effect was real.
