Some Russian troops are surrendering to Ukrainian forces without a fight as morale drops

Yahoo News

Some Russian troops have been surrendering to Ukrainian forces "without a fight" as morale drops amid Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, a US senior defense official told reporters in a briefing on Tuesday.

The US official said that there has been evidence "of a certain risk averse behavior by the Russian military," in the last six days since Russia launched its attack on the eastern European country, CNN reported.

"You've seen it on the ground, where units are surrendering, sometimes without a fight," the official said, according to the news outlet.

The official said that many among Russia's military are young draftees who have never faced combat.

Those videos of Russian tanks and other military vehicles stopping when Ukrainian civilians step in front of them. A ruthless military doesn't stop, they just roll over whoever is in their way. Not only do they stop, then the Russian ground troops just take being yelled at and cursed by the Ukrainians.

All that really made me wonder how committed the ground troops are to killing people they regard as fellow countrymen.

I'll bet the generals wonder that, too, or else they would not be relying on missiles shot from afar where pilots or missile batteries cannot see the faces of those they are killing.

A guy who was stationed in Japan after the war told me of a time he was a passenger in a jeep when an old Japanese man ran out in the road and was waving. The driver of the jeep didn't slow down and just ran over him.

And disabled so they can't be moved.

Come to think of it; this might be one reason their columns are advancing so slowly.

realized. These guys have been in the field on maneuvers for weeks. They probably thought life couldn't get any worse than when camped-out in Belarus drinking anti-freeze. Surprise.
