The only thing that this shows is how ignorant OR what a willful asshole DeSantis is. While France did surrender in WWII, there was a heavy resistance throughout the war. Free French troops under de Gaulle took a major part in the fight to push the Germans out too. France kept Germany back, away from Paris, at great cost during WWI. To slander them with the idea that they would surrender is ridiculous and just shows what a jerk he is.

More than 200,000 French soldiers died in WWII, including 38,000 resistance fighters who if caught usually received torture and summary execution. That number of course doesn't include the French civilians who were murdered by Nazis in retribution for Resistance activities.
