(7,593 posts)The thought of being stuck in an elevator gives me the willies.

(13,643 posts)I used to watch a 911 tv show a couple years back and in almost every episode the fire department had to go to some apartments or office because the elevator was stuck. It seemed to be mostly elevators for parking lots.
Sapient Donkey
(1,568 posts)I was stuck in there for like 30 minutes, with like 10 of them being without anyone knowing I was stuck in it. That's an eternity to a 4 year old. Being stuck in an elevator in all that gear, with 4 other dudes in the same gear, in the middle of a warzone in you're part of an invading army doesn't sound like a pleasant experience.
Hopefully they will be smart and surrender to the Ukrainians who appear to be treating POWs well. Although, depending on the situation that may not be possible and they may end up dying for this mistake. So, Putin may have killed them.

(14,180 posts)Sometimes our elevators dont start after the floor button is pushed. I always go into a silent panic. If you press the door open button, it opens, but Im afraid that one day it wont. I know I can easily call for help if I really get stuck, but just the thought of it .

(31,904 posts)and drop a few grenades... or, if they are up high enough... cut the cable.
They must be stopped...or surrender...
zipplewrath
(16,698 posts)Civilians probably don't have ready access to grenades.
However, they do have ready access to Molotov cocktails.
This is why war is hell.

Or have Ukrainians waiting to gun them down when the doors open.

(10,806 posts)These soldiers should have radios on them, to message down from the roof.
What's to stop them from radio'ing down to get help?
If these soldiers are to die, they'd have to be attacked.

(51,308 posts)Would you want someone to do that to our soldiers? Trapped in that way?
How about have them put down their weapons and take them prisoner?
Do you really think like that?
lapfog_1
(31,904 posts)but they have to disassemble their weapons and pile all the parts on the floor.
They are an invading army... and army guilty already of numerous war crimes.
After WWII we convicted many of those responsible and executed them.
Like I said, these soldiers could have refused orders to invade, or once having crossed into Ukraine, they could have surrendered before firing a shot.
But they didn't.
And, what do you mean "our soldiers"?
If you are Russian, you are responsible for this. You have let this asshole insane dictator stay in office for 22 years.
Botany
(77,324 posts)The fear on the young soldier in the back face is chilling.
lapfog_1
(31,904 posts)They could have disobeyed orders and never invaded... or simply gone up to the first Ukrainian soldier they met and surrendered.
It is very likely that one or more of the men pictured in this photo has already caused the death of a Ukrainian civilian, possibly even children.
We don't know that, but they are part on an invading army.
think Nazis rolling through France or the Netherlands or North Africa.
I have little sympathy for them.

Botany
(77,324 posts)So if they die then so be it. When this image gets back to Russia Putin will have more Russians who
will want to kill him and or take to the streets to demonstrate against his madness and this awful
war.
I hope they pull them out of that elevator and execute them all except for the scared youngster
and then send him back to his unit so he can tell his fellow soldiers what happened.

The face on that guy in the back is priceless. Despite them being conquerors in Putin's invading army, it makes me feel bad for them. They are clearly not trained to a level they should be. They seem to lack experienced leadership close to them. Getting stuck in an elevator probably could have been prevented with the right people around. all of those guys look pretty young to me. Hopefully they laid down their weapons and allowed themselves to be taken POW so they could get some hot food and calls to their loved ones. Despite Putin's attempts to crack down on information getting to the people, I'm sure it's still getting through to their families.

Stairways are awful fatal funnels. Fighting uphill is harder for troops. You got gravity working against you. Think about trying to throw a frag up the stairs , etc. Thats also why troops try to get on the top and work their way down. Thats why our Army tries to put people on the roof with a helicopter.
