I am aware that there is some speculation that he is already dying of cancer, but even if that is true, how many thousands more Ukrainians will he murder before he dies "naturally"?
And, I am aware that a wealthy former oligarch has put a $1,000,000 bounty on Putin's head, but that is "chump change" for a hit like this one would be.
Stroke of lightning, unexpected cardiac arrest, paid assassin or Russian patriot---let's confront the harsh reality: Putin's death in the near future is about the only way for the slaughter in Ukraine to end.
I understand that there are people who believe that calling for anyone's death is always wrong. They are certainly entitled to believe that. As for me, if ending the carnage in Ukraine is wrong, I don't want to be right.

(10,252 posts)It's happened before, not once but twice. Once against the tsar and once against Gorbechev, both instances after a failed war. It could happen again. If hundreds of thousands of people taketo the streets in cities around Russia, Putin can't shoot them all or put all of them in jail. When stores have no food and hunger sets in, and electricity is turned off, civilians won't tolerate that indefinitely.

(6,382 posts)I think that's why we don't get in the business of assassinating world leaders. But I would hope the Russians could find someone willing to say enough is enough.
But I'm sure Putin has the best security around him. It's not like he's showing his face in public.

Putin is bad for sure. But he seems to want to win. Which means the world doesn't get obliterated.

Realistically, I don't think he's likely to be taken prisoner easily. The man does know some martial arts, and I'm sure he's armed at all times.
It would be no loss to the world if he were killed while Russians opposed to a warmongering autocrat tried to remove him.

Is Putin the first leader in current times that has met that standard?
Would such a standard also apply to Leaders that are part of NATO?
