Unless Meat Loaf said something nasty about Obama, I can't stop liking him.

Look, we all have to accept that Obama was never going to get 100% of the vote. Clint Eastwood was off his rocker at the convention, but I can't stop liking him as a person or an actor. Same goes with Meat Loaf. He gave us one of the greatest rock albums of all time, and as far I know he's not an asshole. So unless he said something at the Romney event that disqualifies him as a person, I won't stop liking him or his music over an endorsement.

And Bat out of Hell 2 went to number 1 in 28 countries. He still sells well in Europe, especially England.

Getting to the top once is hard, doing in two different eras is even harder. Yes it helped that Jim Steinman wrote those two albums, it's not like Jim Steinman's had a string of hits without Meatloaf.

I find it funny that so many people rush to hate anybody who supports Republicans and be seen as the most pure and fervent in their disdain. I can't get that worked up over who somebody else votes for. I have no problem watching Braveheart even though Mel Gibson is pretty clearly anti-Semitic. Likewise I don't buy the Black-Eyed Peas music even though they support Obama but that's because I happen to not like their music.

But let's say that Meatloaf had never had a really popular hit song at all. Are we really so shallow that we are reduced to looking at current music sales to provide validation that we're supporting the right candidate?

Epic was shopping that tool all over the globe.

Epic shaped him, his back-story/image and his style.

They were wining and dining every critic in the country.

Epic knew that enough people would buy in and they would sell a ton of records.

Nothing wrong with that, it happens with great regularity today. There just aren't as many critics and the labels simply write their own press.

Eastwood's westerns are my all-time favorite.

Neither Eastwood nor Meat Loaf have any sort of 'pull' over me, though. The person should forever be separate from the body of work.

In fact, I'd say it's a safe bet to not even bother to learn about an artist's personal life or opinions.

He produced the album and his band, Utopia, appear all over the thing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_Out_of_Hell

Todd Rundgren, however, found the album hilarious, thinking that it was a parody of Springsteen.[13] The singer quotes him as saying: "I've got to do this album. It's just so out there." They told the producer that they had previously been signed to RCA.[8] In one 1989 interview with Classic Rock magazine, Steinman labeled him "the only genuine genius I've ever worked with."[6] In a 1989 interview with Redbeard for the In the Studio with Redbeard episode on the making of the album, Meat Loaf revealed that Jimmy Iovine and Andy Johns were potential candidates for producing Bat Out of Hell before being rejected by Meat and Steinman in favor of Rundgren, who Meat initially found cocky but grew to like.

Yeah it was a stupid endorsement. I'm not going to chuck my copy of Bat just because of one guy. At the time the album came out no one had heard anything like it before. Like Dark Side of The Moon, everyone and everything fell into place at the right time. It was the right writer with the right producer, the right singer, the right musicians and the right engineer all in the right place at the right time.

If I found out the woman who sang "Great Gig In The Sky&quot Clair Torrey) was a Republican I sure wouldn't let it cloud my judgement of DSOTM.

Jim Steinman was the Genius Of Bat Out Of Hell, and the Genius Of Bat Out Of Hell II

Bat Out Of Hell II sold more copies and won a Grammy, Jim Steinman wrote and produced the 2nd album

Bat Out Of Hell III bombed horrible because Jim Steinman was not involved. Yes Meat did cover some of Jim's songs (seven), but Jim was not involved in the making of the album

Bat Out Of Hell I sold 14 million copies
Bat Out Of Hell II sold 20 million copies
Bat Out Of Hell III sold 500,000 copies

That said Jim Steinman never had more success than when he was teamed with Mr Aday
