What is the trumper/RW equivalent of the Z in Russia?

It’s a quick way to identify like minded people. I’ve read a couple ideas of what it means and how it started. To tell the truth the first time I saw it was on a Russian tank, and thought it was just the equivalent of the Germans marking their tanks to tell who the commander was to ensure it wouldn’t be appropriated by a different general.
