(14,180 posts)NPR had an interview with an energy expert about just how much money we put in Putins pocket on a daily basis the longer we continue to import. This may just finally hurt the bastard where it counts.
Ill try to find the story
.I thought it was interesting.

(6,710 posts)Now, watch US Big Oil profits. We are likely to see very little damage to their bottom line even as prices rise here. They lie and collude; it is their nature. And, they will scream for more subsidies.
Lets all hope Im terribly wrong here; history suggests I wont be.

(19,446 posts)ooh, they might not make exponentially more profit this year...oh, wait, they totally will because they will jack the prices up even farther to make that happen.

(31,626 posts)We can make it difficult for Putin to sell fossil fuel exports to anyone. That would make it tough on Europe's dependance on Russian natural gas.
I applaud what president Biden has done, leading by example. a profile in courage, but in the scheme of things the US doesn't buy that much oil from Russia.
Can you imagine what would have happened had this gone through Congress? It wouldn't have happened.

(12,046 posts)If you don't prioritize democracy over gas prices whats the point of winning elections anyway? And a lot of time until November, if Putin gets put down then Joe will get some deserved credit.

(3,282 posts)There is mass public support for this so the move makes sense. High gas prices without a ban vs high gas prices with a ban.....the 2nd is a lot easier for people to stomach and rally behind.
But ita time to pressure the Saudis. Let them know if they don't come through for us here our relationship isn't going to be so friendly anymore.

He should go back to his old job as a body guard I think. Too bad the celebrity his team guarded passed away. But there are others who would probably hire him.
