Hard to understand that even DC wasn't integrated, let alone the deep south.

(10,927 posts)I saw KKK cross burnings, the nastiness of racism first hand. When I finished HS, I left to go to college and never went back. I still have family there but am so thankful that I left when I did.
So sad that 55 years later we are still fighting the same battles.

(14,297 posts)She sings like an angel and is a gifted painter, too. Somehow I bet she can do anything well. We are so lucky to share space with people such as Joan Baez.

(13,502 posts)He was born in Mexico, but his family moved here when he was 2. According to Wikipedia, her father studied mathematics and physics and earned a PhD from Stanford. He is credited as a co-inventor of the x-ray microscope. Her mother was born in Scotland as the daughter of an English Anglican priest. Joan Baez is a treasure for the US and a perfect example of why immigration benefits this country.

One of my life's highlights was meeting and speaking with Joan after one of her concerts in Hyannis, MA, many years ago. It's my hope she's with us for a long time to come.
Thank you so much for posting this!
