COPENHAGEN, March 8 (Reuters) - A senior member of Russia's ruling party has proposed nationalising foreign-owned factories that shut down operations in the country over what the Kremlin calls a special military operation in Ukraine.

Several foreign companies including Toyota (7203.T), Nike and home furnishings retailer IKEA have announced temporary shutdowns of stores and factories in Russia in order to put pressure on the Kremlin to stop its invasion of neighbouring Ukraine. read more

In a statement published on Monday evening on the United Russia website, the secretary of the ruling party's general council Andrei Turchak said that shutting operations was a "war" against the citizens of Russia.

The statement mentioned Finnish privately-owned food companies Fazer, Valio and Paulig as the latest to announce closures in Russia.

"United Russia proposes nationalising production plants of the companies that announce their exit and the closure of production in Russia during the special operation in Ukraine," Turchak said.

It’s pretty damn obvious that these sorts of decisions make it highly unlikely any foreign business will ever invest in Russia again. They are pushing themselves back into the darkest days of the Cold War. Fuck them.

How will they supply the goods to manufacture anything?
Them calling shutting down factories ‘war’ is rich.
Maybe the workers won’t return to their old jobs if it means Putin will be pissed.

Moves like that are self destructive, because they will have consequences long after the Ukrainian War is in the history books.

His desperation is showing, that means that he is losing.

Watches without the works, dial less radios, sealed empty food cans, sleeveless parkas, and other wonders produced by a quota driven workforce hostile due to not sharing in the rewards of their labor. Maybe it is time to reopen the gallery.

It's not a war, it's a "special operation".
