(12,782 posts)...Europe isn't going to endure much more of this.

(6,699 posts)Not so sure the higher taxes are directed to health care, as some have suggested. Their roads are so far superior to the cracked up, crappy roads we are driving on in inner cities.
You get what you pay for. I always thought gas should be taxed heavier all along - for road improvement...but then if you did, everyone in greedy amuriKKKa would pass that gas increase along to the consumers, and it would be a golden opportunity to gouge the little guy once again.
Our nation are such whiners and simple minded fools. That's partly why the gQp has so many following along of fox propaganda network and all the reich wing radio hate-spewers. "Simple solutions for simple minds". Getting into the weeds of information is too much trouble for the fox-mentality.

The cost of petrol in Europe has always been significantly higher there than in the US because of it.
We just borrow, and still go bankrupt when we get sick.
By the way...
The freeway from Lisbon to Faro is phenomenal. Paid $42 euro in tolls too. Expensive to drive here. Real expensive. Good thing they have trains that go everywhere for less than gas costs. Some go 250 kph.
No gas guzzlers here....

(170,216 posts)do you have national healthcare?
I'd be fine paying that for gas if we had guaranteed healthcare.

(170,216 posts)I don't like folk comparing their gas prices to ours - when they go bankrupt because of medical care THEN they can talk
paleotn
(21,837 posts)It's not an apples to apples comparison. Same comparing state taxes within the US.

But oh my, the pain of the gas fill-up.

(6,699 posts)That's pretty much been the price for quite a long time. No major price increases during this time of "gouge and make a dollar" in the rest of the world.
Pemex is the national gas network here in Mexico, but in recent years they have allowed other petroleum companies set up to compete. Prices are really about the same. It varies maybe a peso between stations. It does get cheaper up around Nuevo Laredo...but I don't like hanging around up there on the border any longer than necessary.
We were paying these prices right along for the last several years. Something to be said for nationalized petroleum production.

(2,063 posts)Unfortunately that means more at the pump. Hopefully it pushes people to EVs, or at least more car pooling.
