Hospital update

It appears that the MRI, which showed no evidence of bone infection was wrong. The surgeon took a sample and sent it to the lab for culture. It will take a couple of days to know which bacteria is the culprit. I have been presented with two options, depending on the strain of bacteria. (1): Lose the toe, and all that it means. (2): Undergo a six-week course of tailored antibiotics in hopes of killing the infection and saving the toe.
Neither appears to be a good option. For now, it's wait and see.

He had to sit in a chair on IV antibiotics for over a month before they could attempt another replacement. It was scary and difficult but it beat the infection he got a new replacement and he’s doing fine walking 4 miles a day now. Good luck with yours I hope you can beat that nasty infection

(and like) things like chilli powder, various curry powders, raw garlic, garlic powder, rosemary...

all these have various phyto nutriants that help with infections. You have a serious challenge, but May these will tip your immune system into higher gear.

losing a big toe will bring changes in your balance and walking that you'll have to adjust to. Once it's one, it's gone.

Given the choice you've received, think I'd opt for the 6-week treatment first, and then see where that leads.

Good luck!

I would give the antibiotics a try. I feel sure you will do whatever is required of you. Wishing you the very best outcome.
