For those who missed the UN meeting

Here is a link to YouTube:

It went about as you would expect. The Security Council pretty much told Russia off for wasting their time, in the diplomatic verbiage that you would expect. I was quite surprised that IRELAND stated at the very end of her speech that it had gone beyond the time for diplomacy. Or words to that effect. When I rewound for accuracy, the soundtrack discoupled by a second. I have no idea why. I don't recommend that you rewind.

The translator's volume was way down, so almost all of the Russian Federation's complaint was lost to me. I could only follow so much; it's been a long time. But, no matter, the answers in English were pretty definitive. The mildest comment I can remember is, "nonsense."

India tread that line masterfully. They had vanilla comments and carefully refrained from mentioning Russia. I have not a clue as to what China said. Perhaps someone can fill me in.

Albania once again shined with their comments. They don't mince words.

And, all the rest. UK was articulate, forceful, and firmly rejected all of the Russian comments. Most all of the countries at least said that biological and chemical weapons are unacceptable.

Apparently, Ukraine has a medical system with labs that were dedicated to investigating normal pathogens. In particular, they were participating in the Covid-19 research on behalf of, well, the world. They were proud of it and transparent about it. The unit of the UN dedicated to investigating any such programs was satisfied that nothing was going on except pure research (into disease causing entities that any country might dedicate itself to eradicating.)

Thus, you know, if a country was going to be condemned for having such a research program, no one could really have one at all. It is a ridiculous fantasy of Russia, a conspiracy theory, and probably a precursor toward their habit of using chemical warfare on civilian populations. This last is what several countries stated about Russia today.

One of them even said as much. These people are smart and none of this is lost on them. But, as the US speaker said, they allowed the meeting to be held to get out on record and in the public all the crap that Russia is perpetuating on the world. To show the nonsense. Maybe they can edit it out for their own people, but nobody else is fooled.

BTW...the QAnon crowd was crowing about this bullshit a week ago. Sounds like the QAnon/CON party link to Russian disinfo is firmly established.

Same as it ever was...

Can you explain that remark? They were talking today about Russia's ridiculous assertion that Ukraine was planning to use biologicals or chemicals on Russia, with the US helping them (which is nonsense). The nuclear threat is a separate problem.

I am hoping that Russia is kicked out of the UN. There is no strict advantage for them to participate when they stand for all the UN is against. I think there are signs of impatience there. In particular, Ukraine today kept referring to the "gentleman occupying the USSR seat" as illegitimate in that he shouldn't have the chair. It's not like Russia is learning how to be a peacemaker, anyway, which might be an argument to keep them close at hand. But, Russia is a troublemaker, to be sure.

11. What they're not talking about or doing is STOPPING HIM from bombing a maternity hospital

Apartment complexes, kindergarten classes. Children are dying TODAY because there is no food to get in their city that was bombed back to the fucking Stone Age.

12. They DID talk about the maternity hospital.

The United Nations is aware of what Russia did, and how they lied about it. The birth of the baby was announced, along with the baby's picture. This bombing is labeled a war crime. The entire world knows about the maternity hospital bombing and in particular, the featured woman and her new baby. They stopped short of mentioning that perhaps the family and the baby won't survive.

It is my impression that the UN is not meant to actually fight a war. They are more inline with assisting civilians. To this extent, they can go in and help the millions of refugees and casualties (I call casualties also those that have been bombed out of their homes, and are now standing in the streets with no food or other care.) But, the UN is not going to create a no-fly zone.

Also, the UN troops are made up of all the countries, and have to be gathered. They have a ten day quick strike force, and a mandated 60 day deployment deadline. Their forward force is something like 4,000 men.

So, this is not enough to do what you want done. Now, NATO could have stopped Putin. But, both the UN and NATO are treading lightly out of fear of WW3.

Russia would only vote to veto any such deployment. That is why they should kick Russia out of the UN; at which point China would probably veto. Their hands are tied. China might vote for humanitarian deployment only. So, kick Russia out, please.

14. When the USSR fell apart

and no longer existed, Russia was allowed to occupy that chair despite it belonging to the now defunct USSR. This is the gist of what Ukraine is saying. This is the fact that the UN could hang its hat on. But, what of China? It seems that the UN has the same problems with its charter that many constitutions have. There is always a rule that impedes progress.

Maybe this is good, maybe this is bad. The checks and balances of any system are there for a reason. Now, I am in favor of booting Russia out. That doesn't mean I am right. It just means that I am personally sick.to.death of war and all the stinking politics which I never wanted to have to take note of in any way. If I were a country unto myself, I would have asked the Security Council to take up the question of whether Russia is entitled to that chair. But China, a permanent member, is always going to veto any action in that direction.

I am not impressed with the UN. But, apparently, they are doing well in voicing opinions, but not particularly well in taking any affirmative action. I see it as kind of a club. You join the club, get on a committee, and make decisions. But, you don't do anything substantive. You get people to agree that this is bad, this won't work...but that's all that you can do.

One thing that IS good is that there is visibility, and countries take their participation SERIOUSLY, to the point of very emotional and prideful presentations of their opinions. In this way, we get to socialize the world with other cultures and societies. This mixture is a good thing. And, one lousy country can destroy this.

Not the Russian people, but Putin is doing this. When we get rid of Putin, the Russians should rename their country something and then apply to the UN for proper membership. Not having veto power shouldn't deter them. It is, after all, a way of building credibility.

And one country after another. This is not moral and I’m really fucked up over it, beyond the fact that we know people there. My daughter went on many mission trips there, my grandson has been there. The people are incredible. How many millions of people have to die? When will it be enough?
