I was more or less resigned to an old man's body.
I sure didn't bargain for an old woman's body.

Thanks for the memories. I loved him as the empty suit in Broadcast News.
I think I will queue up A History of Violence.
'Cause you can bet if I misplaced a couple of 30 megaton warheads, there'd be consequences.

(76,704 posts)Those 2 movies are those I think of first when talking about Bill Hurt.
My wife & I both loved those movies.
I know his most known role was probably Broadcast News, but we loved these 2.
He was also terrific in Michael, with Travolta.

I'm very sad that he's no longer with us.

(43,165 posts)we went to off-Broadways every weekend, but I don't recall that one.
My conversations with him were actually at The Lion's Head where he came in after the performance for a few drinks. I think I only remember Sigourney Weaver coming once, but Wm was there on a more regular basis.
And as you know, we lost The Lion's Head, too, quite a few years back. Wonder what's there now.

Thank you, sleepless.
I, too, feel ancient when I encounter NYC changes. So many. The biggest thing now is that it's such a rich person's place. I hope that changes with the investigations of the oligarchs influencing so much of real estate prices will get the ball rolling. Something really needs to happen to make the city more affordable.

(20,591 posts)that movie freaked me out a little bit, because I was "experimenting" with Peyote at that time. I didn't want to turn into some missing link, breaking into zoos and stuff, so l cut back on my experimentation a little. Just a little.
He was much too young to die. Very sad, and assholes like Trump and Putin still draw air.

He was stellar and believe it or not I think his finest performance was the brief scene in A History of Violence at the end. However
everything else as well

(14,092 posts)Between Paddy Chayefsky's brilliant concept and Ken Russell's brilliant direction, what tethered the film back to earth, and made it one of the best sc-fi films ever, was Hurt's committed performance. I last saw him in the Goliath series and he was terrific. What a loss!
