When the old Soviet system broke up in the early 1990's, a small army of right wing advisors flooded into Russia and its surrounds to help the up-and-coming "entrepreneurs" who appropriated state industries for themselves through a combination of corruption and intimidation.

Giuliani had just completed disrupting the Italian mob in New York, opening up opportunities for the growing Russian mob, who found much to like in the administration of Rudy Giuliani and the real estate services of Donald Trump.

In July of 2016 at the RNC Convention. When the Republican platform policy against Crimea was changed in favor of Russia rather than the original draft in favor of Ukraine’s defense of territories being occupied by Russia. It was the only change Trump got and wanted. They could have changed and most candidates due make a ton of changes the party platform to reflect their policies and positions. It is serious business but for this year they only made just one change. Donald did change the only thing he needed for it to be totally aligned with Putin. Russia is the Republican’s policy and position still.

That to me was the tell they were fused together and the one and the same.

Russia and the NRA seem to have been working with each other prior to Trump's candidacy. I would say that Trump opened the floodgates by working so closely with Russia during the 2016 election but remember that Trump has long standing ties to Russia since US banks stopped lending him money after he defaulted on so many loans.

Republicans had started expressing more or less openly expressing admiration of Putin and often compared Obama unfavorably to him. I think that that was around the time that those shirtless pics of Putin started showing up everywhere.
