What he actually says in the video is different from what is in the tweet.

He didn't say that he carried multiple weapons or that he gave any weapons to anyone.

He is being interviewed in the secure location where the Congress members waited for the occupiers to leave the building and he says that he is armed (as he is allowed to be), that his wheelchair is capable of carrying multiple weapons, and that people around him are also armed.

The "people around me" at that time consisted of other Congress members and Capitol Police.

The tweet is misinformation, designed to generate reaction and clicks.

Cawthorn did not say he armed people around him; he said the people around him are armed. He also didn’t make any link between the Capitol riot and how he uses his wheelchair to carry weapons - he just said that’s what he does, as we already know.

There are tons of replies to the effect of “how did he know he needed to bring weapons on that day?!!” He always has weapons, he didn’t say he handed out weapons (much less to rioters), and he didn’t say anything here to suggest he brought special weapons on the 6th.

(Even if a member of Congress did get extra-armed on the 6th, that wouldn’t suggest anything criminal; they’re allowed to carry at the Capitol, and you could even find analysts on Twitter warning the day was going to be violent. In summary: not-great video captioning.)

It is an interview conducted during the Jan. 6 insurrection as Cawthorn is in a secure location with other Congress members. He states that he is armed (as he was allowed to be). He also says that his wheelchair is capable of carrying multiple weapons, but does not say that it was doing so that day; and he also says that people around him are armed. He does not say he armed those people, who are presumably the people guarding the Congress members at his location.

Cawthorn's a dick, but I don't see the point in being dishonest about what he actually says and does not say in the video.
