Democrats had no other professional comedian to that level in their ranks. A smart comedian is someone who is an exceptional observer, someone who can explain the important issues in a way that transcends many different groups of people. This is a very special gift. One that Zelensky was gifted as well.

Democrats were extremely lucky to have Al Franken run for them , and then win his seat. What a tool in their arsenal.
