Kyiv must accept it will not join Nato, Zelensky says

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has said the country must accept it can’t ever join Nato. Speaking to representatives of the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) via video link on Tuesday, he said: “Ukraine is not a member of Nato. We understand that.

“We have heard for years that the doors were open, but we also heard that we could not join. It’s a truth and it must be recognised.”

There isn’t much more than that. The link has multiple stories in one article.

This removes one of Pooty's complaints. Hopefully they can reach an agreement soon.

I agree, it's not a happy prospect unless we are willing to destroy Putin by any means possible, short of nuclear war.

Russia agreed to respect Ukrainian borders when Ukraine gave up all those nuclear weapons after the USSR fell apart. How's that working out?

So NATO membership will be quietly worked out in advance, then announced as a fair accompli at an opportune time

That's as foolish as playing by the rules in the US Senate, after McConnell has violated every rule and norm he could get his gangrenous claws on.

Just lie. Sign a treaty. Who cares. What is Russia going to do if Ukraine breaks the treaty? Whine to the UN? No one will recognize a treaty signed under these conditions.

Or better yet… don’t joint NATO, but “give” one mile of Ikraine territory on every border they share with Russia to Poland. Make that mile Russia has to cross all NATO territory.

Defeat of RF army is now baked into the cards.

Now is about decimation of the RF army and restive regions of the RF declaring independence.

Translation has his reading in past passive tense; I wonder if that's accurate as is.

If so, Zelinskyy is certainly not denying any potential future alliances or memberships, only affirming a past reality.

Its why Putin started territorial disputes in Donbas & Luhansk and seized Crimea.

Same goes for Georgia, and Moldova with its breakaway Transnistria region.
