(8,387 posts)We would construct the same kind of thing around any president who wanted to show up with a surrounding relatively unvetted crowd.
Putin's an asshole but there is nothing special about putting leaders behind bullet proof shields.

(20,049 posts)Which is something I've never seen before. He looks like a specimen in a cage and it negates his strongman persona he likes to project. This exceeds caution and implies paranoia.
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)We probably wouldn't do that with any of our presidents.
But, duh, yes, he is completely surrounded by people with lots of angles.
Find an American president doing that.
It's just strikes me as kind of pointless to make anything out of the fact that, yes, during public appearances world leaders use bullet proof shields appropriate to where the audience is. We do it. Everyone does it.

(8,387 posts)In the video in the OP, he ends the speech without being cut off mid sentence.
And, no, there is no present technology to do a computer-generated 3D representation of a person in the center of the stadium with a 360 viewing angle.

(15,320 posts)I have also noticed how both putin aand Xi have begun using the term "fake news" whenever confronted with unflattering truthful statements. All three of them (putin, xi and trump) seem to follow the identical script.

(8,387 posts)There is this bizarre assumption that Putin does not have substantial support from the Russian population.
That assumption is wrong.
When he took over Crimea, it boosted his popularity immensely.

This is what I learned from visiting Twitter.

(33,579 posts)Most people responding in such threads, current reply not excluded, blow smoke without even checking links or quoted sources. Whether it's Twitter or not.
It's not a search for truth or elevated discourse but most likely condescending and self righteous babbling that often makes it into the replies.
Then there are the sideways attempts at insults, the back handed compliments which don't even address the poster's content. Additionally, such replies don't reveal the intelligent superiority of the poster but reduce them to a pile of pettiness like the bits of clothing left after the witch is melted.
If one doesn't like the poster's use of Twitter as a source, one can seek out and post their presumably more elevated alternative.
Unfortunately, it has become the case with pervasive regularity, that Twitter invades DU. I replied to the content and attempted to provide a coherent account of it. I didn't criticize the OP based on their choice of sources, as much as it might disappoint me.
But it's clear the reply post is true to the moniker. Though I doubt the moniker is true. When one implies that they are above the fray, one should probably actually stay exactly there. Otherwise, it supports a more debase position than the one they proclaim they embody. Counterintuitive at best, self ostracizing at worst.
If you have a better source than Twitter for this content I'll be happy to read and comment on it too. Thanks for your reply.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is cracking down on rap music, saying it is an important part of pop culture but needs to be guided by the state. CNN's Frederik Pleitgen reports from Moscow.
