(40,220 posts)It will be ugly for certain, but if there is an opening it will be filled quickly. We have already seen that happen. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

(182,883 posts)Not a Constitutional scholar but I remember reading or seeing commentary that Senate confirmation isnt really needed. Its just how weve done it. Joe would make their heads pop if he did that.

(25,584 posts)It is conceivable that one of the reasons that the Republicans have such sour looks on their faces is that theyre gonna be back soon doing the same thing. Nobody can tell me that they dont know whats really going on with the other justice presently in the hospital. Im sure word is out among the hot shots and theyre getting nervous.
Its going to be Weekend at Bernies for justice Thomas if he sick so that they can get through the midterms and pray that they take the Senate, which I do not believe they will do. As far as Im concerned the Republicans could forget about Pennsylvania, they screwed themselves as usual and I do believe that our lieutenant governor will be the next senator.

(23,367 posts)Once approved, Ketanji Brown Jackson will be "on the shelf" until a seat opens. Hopefully sooner than the end of this session.

(13,886 posts)Manchin walked back the comment he made earlier afternoon indicating that he would not support confirming a second Biden nominee to the Supreme Court if another vacancy occurs shortly before the Nov. 8 midterm election.

(13,886 posts)and he won't vote for it. It's going to mean Republican's will be able to openly cheat and we can do nothing about it. We're slowly going down the shitter and accepting it because it could be worse if we don't have Manchin. I'm not even sure he will vote for Brown.
lagomorph777
(30,613 posts)Basically, find a way to buy him off. Maybe buy out his oil, coal, and gas businesses? Can we get an actual billionaire to do that?
jalan48
(13,886 posts)mean to be negative but the writing is on the wall. Our best chance is electing more Democrats and that avenue has been shut down with the help of Manchin and Sinema. At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see Brown's nomination pulled and the Judge from South Carolina put forth.

(30,613 posts)But look at what Ukraine is facing - and winning!
I think we can do this.
Ironically, I think Putin may have just seriously damaged the Russiapublican party's chances in the midterms. If we don't exploit their Putin ties, we are fools.
