Just passed 7 utility trucks heading E to help with Sandy destruction. Those folks won't get much sleep for the next week. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!

(23,156 posts)several times when we had massive power outages from snow or freezing rain, and it was always amazing and wonderful to see trucks with utility crews from all over the country working to restore our power.
Utility crews are among the unsung heroes of our country.

(1,136 posts)These people are away from their homes, working around the clock to help out when needed. I remember in Irene and Isabelle seeing trucks from OK here in VA. I always stop and offer food, drinks, take them treats when I see them working!!

(2 posts)...during Oklahoma's massive ice storm of 2007, my power was out for 10 days. I remember seeing utility crews from LA, PA, VA, KS, MO. I always honked at these guys while driving by with a thumbs up. I offered some of them doing work outside my home some coffee from where I worked (I had a decent sized thermos). They were very appreciative. Nice to know that there are some things we as Americans don't bicker about all the time.

(29,149 posts)Always good to see folks from the Sooner State sign up. I know it's not always an easy place to live politically speaking (having lived in Norman for several years up until 2005)

(23,156 posts)My youngest son was attending the University of Tulsa at the time. The next two years, anytime I drove down to see him, the ravages of that storm were starkly evident at least fifty or sixty miles north of Tulsa.
The power of nature is amazing.

(916 posts)the entire eastbound half of the I-40 was nothing but utility trucks. I know it's good business for those guys, but god bless 'em, it sure was something to see the cavalry arriving! Those guys were the best!

Overtime and hazard pay.
Be safe everyone.
