FDA authorizes 4th COVID shot for everyone over 50

https://abcnews.go.com/amp/Health/4th-covid-shot-authorized-fda-50/story?id=83730999

A second round of booster shots was authorized for everyone over the age of 50 by the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday, kicking off the regulatory process for shots to likely be available in pharmacies sometime this week.

Everyone 12 and older is already eligible for a booster shot five months after their initial vaccine series, if they received an mRNA vaccine like Pfizer or Moderna, or two months after getting the J&J vaccine.

my nurse told me it was 90 days only if you had the infusion. I waited for my 3rd shot, I went in 2 months after having covid. She told me you can get the booster a few weeks after having covid as long as you didn't get the infusion.

What have others heard?

the reason you can make an appointment for a second booster is because anyone who says they're immuno compromised can get one. If you are honest about it, they should not be giving you a 2nd booster until the CDC provides them with guidance on the administration of the shot. Heard the exact same thing from two different pharmacies, one a chain and one an independent. One pharmacist thinks the CDC may give a recommendation of waiting 6 months instead of the 4 mentioned by the FDA. Both told me the CDC is supposed to rule on this sometime Thursday night.

as it's the CDC that decides the time frame between the boosters and ultimately who will be eligible to get them.

And both pharmacies used the same terminology with me - that the CDC had to release them.

The golf dome where I hit balls in the winter is well east & north. There's a CVS heading back west, a mile or so north.
I might just go there as it only takes me slightly out of the way. I got my booster there on a Saturday. (I went after golf.)

It was so ridiculous. I even showed them the CDC's press release. The HR person for this independent chain in our county, the billing specialist, and the pharmacist all read it and still didn't understand. How does this translate to people 50 and over but under 65 only qualifying for the second booster if they are immunocompromised:

“Today, CDC expanded eligibility for an additional booster dose for certain individuals who may be at higher risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19. Boosters are safe, and people over the age of 50 can now get an additional booster 4 months after their prior dose to increase their protection further. This is especially important for those 65 and older and those 50 and older with underlying medical conditions that increase their risk for severe disease from COVID-19 as they are the most likely to benefit from receiving an additional booster dose at this time.

I find it amazing how it has affected me differently each time. With the first booster it took almost 30 hours before the symptoms kicked in, and it was as bad then as it is now, but, like you, this time it hit me much quicker.
