https://abcnews.go.com/amp/Health/4th-covid-shot-authorized-fda-50/story?id=83730999A second round of booster shots was authorized for everyone over the age of 50 by the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday, kicking off the regulatory process for shots to likely be available in pharmacies sometime this week.
Everyone 12 and older is already eligible for a booster shot five months after their initial vaccine series, if they received an mRNA vaccine like Pfizer or Moderna, or two months after getting the J&J vaccine.

(2,493 posts)my nurse told me it was 90 days only if you had the infusion. I waited for my 3rd shot, I went in 2 months after having covid. She told me you can get the booster a few weeks after having covid as long as you didn't get the infusion.
What have others heard?

(12,744 posts)It's sad how many available appointments there are. If I had transportation, I could get it done in a 1/2 hour.

My last day of work is Thursday - so if I get side effects next week - no biggie!

(76,673 posts)Perhaps they haven't heard this news yet.
I'm going Moderna hunting tonight.
The CVS in our town has Pfizer, so my wife's booster is a slam dunk. The pharmacy is 10 blocks away

(7,358 posts)the reason you can make an appointment for a second booster is because anyone who says they're immuno compromised can get one. If you are honest about it, they should not be giving you a 2nd booster until the CDC provides them with guidance on the administration of the shot. Heard the exact same thing from two different pharmacies, one a chain and one an independent. One pharmacist thinks the CDC may give a recommendation of waiting 6 months instead of the 4 mentioned by the FDA. Both told me the CDC is supposed to rule on this sometime Thursday night.

(76,673 posts)They said "Come on in, any time."
This OP says it's approved, our pharmacy says we're good to go, but you're getting a different response.
So, that's pretty confusing.

(7,358 posts)are immunocomprised. So if you get there for your shot and they give you a hard time, just tell them you're immunocompromised. It will only make a few days difference.

(76,673 posts)But, I don't see the point of lying about it.
Maybe they know it's imminent anyway & are just doing it prior to the formal guidance.
Native
(7,358 posts)as it's the CDC that decides the time frame between the boosters and ultimately who will be eligible to get them.
And both pharmacies used the same terminology with me - that the CDC had to release them.

(7,358 posts)unless I'm immunocompromised. Said they are waiting on guidelines from the CDC.

(76,673 posts)I got my booster of October 30. My wife's was 4 days later.
We're at nearly 6 months.
I'm going Moderna hunting tonight.
I know FDA & CDC say mixing is ok, but there are 4 CVS stores within 25 minutes of our town. (The one in town is Pfizer only.). I'm willing to go 25 minutes to stay consistent.

(76,673 posts)So, we can just go to the place 10 blocks away for her.
The golf dome where I hit balls in the winter is well east & north. There's a CVS heading back west, a mile or so north.
I might just go there as it only takes me slightly out of the way. I got my booster there on a Saturday. (I went after golf.)

(7,358 posts)until the CDC "releases the pharmacies." They've heard that the CDC is in agreement with the FDA, but they might have different guidelines, and they are expected to decide on this Thursday night.

Not sure why the reticence now, unless he's hearing folks say it's only good for the drug companies.

(7,358 posts)the pharmacy misread the CDC's guidance. Said only people 65 or older or 50+ and immunocompromised could receive it. So much stupidity in Florida!

(7,358 posts)It was so ridiculous. I even showed them the CDC's press release. The HR person for this independent chain in our county, the billing specialist, and the pharmacist all read it and still didn't understand. How does this translate to people 50 and over but under 65 only qualifying for the second booster if they are immunocompromised:

(7,358 posts)I find it amazing how it has affected me differently each time. With the first booster it took almost 30 hours before the symptoms kicked in, and it was as bad then as it is now, but, like you, this time it hit me much quicker.
