Hagerty was a Repub (the only one on my list), but was a vocal civil rights supporter, served the full 8 years, and also was Eisenhower's liaison on occasion with Senate, plus handled a lot of sticky situations.

(20,005 posts)It will be interesting to see just how Chris does now that he's gone from Fox. It might surprise all of us.

(4,197 posts)I don't agree with Chris Wallaces' politics, but I do think he tried to push back on some of Fox's more outrageous propaganda.
leftyladyfrommo
(20,005 posts)And he obviously didn't get along well at Fox because he did speak out.
He is still conservative but that may change.
DFW
(60,186 posts)And he usually has nothing good to say about ANYONE from Fox Noise.

(60,186 posts)My father was a celebrated Washington print journalist, even made it to the presidency of the Gridiron Club. He was cited in the Congressional Record by Congresscritters of BOTH parties for his fairness.
I was often asked why I didn't go into journalism. I said it was quite simply because his shoes were far too big for me to fill.

(20,005 posts)I think that's why so many kids like that crash and burn.
Look at Tom Hanks' son? So many 9f those kids get really messed up. And they have too much money.
DFW
(60,186 posts)Maybe if I had had too much money, I would see things differently
leftyladyfrommo
(20,005 posts)I don't think a lot of those kids even try. They seem to go for joining rock bands and doing a whole lot of drugs.
They spend so much of their life searching.
I don't understand why they don't see that they could do things completely differently than their famous parents and build a really good life for themselves.
But I haven't ever been wealthy and my family is just regular folks so I probably don't really understand their predicament. Can you imagine being Madonna's daughter? Or a child of any of those narcissistic assholes. It's tough.

(60,186 posts)One of my best friends happens to be a genius at business and investing. He just has the right instincts, bought Tesla and Apple when they were pennies, bought a percentage of a firm in its infancy for no money but helping out by lending his organizational skills in return for a percentage of the company. It was just sold for hundreds of millions, so he is made for life.
His two kids are between messed-up-and-recovering and messed-up-and-a-basket-case. I don't know if it helped or hurt that he told them he would leave them both $1 million each in his will, and he was donating the rest to non-profits, such as educational foundations, cancer research, etc.
I had a schoolmate while I was in grade school with a REALLY famous father. His name was Bobby Kennedy, Jr. He was a really nice kid, as I remember, but ended up with plenty of issues of his own.
On the other hand, I think of Chelsea Clinton, Obama's daughters, the Hamilton kids (Watergate prosecutor who made good), and know that plenty of prominent parents took the time and effort to do parenting the right way. Not all kids of prominence turn out to be Trump spawn.
