No coincidence that the last 3 Democratic Presidents following Republicans had to reverse a Recession and enact Recovery and Rescue plans.
Republican policies "rescue" the rich but devastate the jobs market and crush working families' prospects.
Every. Single. Time.

(63,221 posts)We need a serious marketing/PR initiative. There are so many reasons why the majority of Americans should be on the side of the Democrats, but the right-wing runs circles around us with their propaganda and messaging.
I'm sorry, and I am a loyal Democrat, but we really need to get our act together when it comes to getting our message out and telling the truth about the republicans. We have been failing miserably in this department.

Trickle Down Economics was a grift.
https://money.cnn.com/2015/06/15/news/economy/trickle-down-theory-wrong-imf/index.html
Wealth does not trickle down from the rich to the poor. Period.
That's not Senator Elizabeth Warren talking. That's the latest conclusion of new research from the International Monetary Fund.
In fact, researchers found that when the top earners in society make more money, it actually slows down economic growth. On the other hand, when poorer people earn more, society as a whole benefits.
The researchers calculated that when the richest 20% of society increase their income by one percentage point, the annual rate of growth shrinks by nearly 0.1% within five years.
This shows that "the benefits do not trickle down," the researchers wrote in their report, which analyzed over 150 countries.
By contrast, when the lowest 20% of earners see their income grow by one percentage point, the rate of growth increases by nearly 0.4% over the same period.
The new report called widening inequality "the defining challenge of our time," echoing earlier comments from President Obama.
The authors explain that high levels of income inequality drag down growth because poor people struggle to pay for health care and education, which hurts society as a whole.
"For instance, it can lead to under-investment in education as poor children end up in lower-quality schools and are less able to go on to college," the report says. "As a result, labor productivity could be lower than it would have been in a more equitable world."
The report builds upon research from other international organizations and Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel laureate who has been campaigning against rising inequality.

(7,654 posts)their side doesn't really care about the economy, they care about whatever social issue of the day has been ginned up to make them made at the world.
Our side cares about everything (sometimes leading to some getting disillusioned and sitting out if everything isn't fixed right away).
Then there's that slice left over that doesn't think about anything except how bad things are, and who vote for the party not in power every single time. Which leads to the back and forth electoral nature of our politics.
Only way to stop it is massive involvement from our side every single election. Otherwise, we can't beat out both their enthusiasm and the "pox on all their houses" voters who just want to blame whomever is currently in charge.
Justice matters.

(42,770 posts)Totally get that post pandemic you've got a lot of job growth. But I don't understand why it's double or triple anybody else is there some number that skewing it? I mean if you're close to full employment must mean there are like hundreds of thousands of jobs unfilled. Sorry guess that's no brainer.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)During pandemic? If we brought most back then that explains the large growth over 12-15 mos. It will be interesting to see what real job growth ends up to be.

(4,061 posts)they will prevail. In rural areas one doesn't dare call themselves a Democrat. I live in Madison Cawthorn's district and was just appalled that he won....lots of small solidly Republican towns scattered around the mountains here and ALL went for him....only because he had an R after his name. It started with Reagan in the South and it grew and grew. We know who the real "demons" are!!
Go Madame Speaker. As others have said on here, tons of people who vote republican, vote against their own self interest. Just dumb shits who get conned into thinking they are the haves, by con men, liars and cheats.

(10,685 posts)from the repubs for decades about the trickle down nonsense and it is baked in already. Now with all the culture war stuff going on it's going to be hard to get those hardcore wing nuts out of their delusional mindset. Fortunately I still believe they are a minority in a minority party so we must energize our base and peel off as many reasonable voters who believe democracy is worth saving.. It's the so called swing voters that are a problem, they have to pick a side, they're either for democracy or for autocracy and our candidates must make the choice very clear.
